AirAsia to start Singapore hub soon, widening its network
KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — AirAsia has received Singapore’s approval to start
a hub in the island republic soon, say sources, allowing the Malaysian
airline to expand its network in the growing regional low-cost market
segment just a week after Putrajaya aborted its share swap with
loss-making Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
The Malaysian Insider understands that Singapore has informed AirAsia it will get an air operator’s certificate (AOC) as soon as possible, ending years of lobbying by Asia’s biggest low-cost carrier to set up operations in the city-state, a leading Asian financial centre.
“Singapore has agreed in principle to issue the AOC. It will be issued soon,” an industry source told The Malaysian Insider.

Cathay upset by Victoria Beckham's in-flight pic
HONG KONG — Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham flew into controversy on Monday after she posed for a picture in a crew-only seat on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong.
"Cabin crew prepare for landing! Welcome to Beijing!! X vb," she wrote on Twitter alongside a photograph of her sitting in the crew seats aboard the Beijing-bound flight on Friday.
Wearing sunglasses and a peach-coloured dress, she appears to be making an announcement on the public address system while a stewardess sitting next to her pulls a funny face.
An airline spokeswoman said the stunt was harmless but "inappropriate". The photo was not taken at any critical stage of the flight, such as take-off or landing, she added.

She gets to travel the world as a stewardess for a major airline.
While the travelling is nice, the 35-year-old - who requests to go by the name Florence because she is worried about her airline objecting to the interview - says the job is far from glamorous.
"Some of the things we do certainly don't fit with the glamour people normally associate with being a stewardess", says the Malaysian, who has been in the industry for 10 years.
